'Fantastic' to partner with Queen & King of the Court London Showcase, says Mayor of London Khan
The prestigious tournament – which will be staged at the iconic venue of Canada Square, Canary Wharf – brings together some of the world’s leading beach volleyball players and best British talent in an exciting fast-paced format.
Attracting an international beach volleyball event to London has been a long-term goal for the sport’s governing body, Volleyball England, and the GLA has invested a significant amount of time and resource to help make it happen.
In addition to providing much needed assistance and guidance in the delivery of this particular event, the authority has also scoped opportunities which have cemented London as a destination of choice for high-level international volleyball events across all formats of the sport.
“It’s fantastic to partner with Queen & King of the Court for their London Showcase event,” said Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. said Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
“This is the first time major international volleyball will be staged in the capital since the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and I am excited that Londoners can enjoy all the action for free.”
“This event further cements our city’s reputation as the sports capital of the world, as we work together for a better London for everyone.”
The QKOTC London Showcase has already attracted international star pairings such as Marie-Sára Štochlová (Czechia) and Sunniva Helland-Hansen (Norway) and Alexander Brouwer (Netherlands) and Robin Sowa (Germany), as well as some of the leading British players, including Javier and Joaquin Bello, Freddie Bialokoz and Issa Batrane (pictured above) and Anaya Evans and Katie Keefe.
It is free for spectators to attend and matches will start on the Friday evening from 5pm and on the Saturday morning from 10am.
“As part of our The Game Plan strategy, we have a strong desire to collaborate with local, national, and international partners in the delivery of international volleyball events on a yearly basis,” said Charlie Ford, Chief Executive Officer of Volleyball England.
“We want those events to help raise the standards of our players and structure, improve fan and community activation and develop our referees, officials and volunteers.
“London is an attractive option for international events and we are fortunate to be working with the GLA, which not only brings its significant experience to this particular Queen & King of the Court event, but also a vast knowledge that can help develop future event plans.”
