How did your sitting volleyball club start?

The club was founded in 1995 at the Queen’s Medical Centre (hence the name Casualties) and has grown to become one of the leading volleyball clubs in Nottingham.

Our sitting team was established two years ago and has gone from strength to strength. We are looking to grow the offer to provide more local opportunities for all abilities to participate in sitting volleyball.

What is your most memorable achievement as a club?

We were awarded Club of the Month by #Every Body Moves in August, during the Paris Paralympics. This prestigious ParalympicsGB award recognised the hard work we’re doing, both on and off the court, to promote Sitting Volleyball and to provide inclusive sport opportunities in Nottingham.

The club is now in the running for the #Every Body Moves Club of the Year, and you can vote for us here.

We have also just returned from the Copenhagen Sit Cup with a bronze medal, which is pretty cool! This was our first experience competing against teams in Europe and we exceeded all our expectations with what we achieved!

What are your ambitions for the club?

  • To provide inclusive sport opportunities for both disabled and non disabled people, of all abilities, in Nottingham.

  • To raise awareness of the sport of sitting volleyball.

  • To continue to grow and develop our sitting volleyball offer so that we are competitive at national and international competitions.

Why should people try sitting volleyball?

People should try sitting volleyball as it’s a fast paced sport which is both skilful and exciting.

The sport is very inclusive and provides the opportunity to make new friends and be part of the wider sitting volleyball community, which is both welcoming and supportive.
